About This Episode

Nick Troxel’s Background

When Nick Troxel was in college, he participated in a business pitching contest. Although he didn’t win, the experience confirmed that Nick wanted to become an entrepreneur. Later when Nick worked with entrepreneurs and found himself wanting to own his own business, he knew this was the best step for him.

“Do you want to have a family? Do you enjoy big offices and long hours? Do you want to have a lavish life? Do you want to live in the mountains? You have to know what you want and plan your life around that,” explained Nick Troxel in Episode 76 of You Are A Lawyer.

Why Law School

Nick Troxel attended law school to prepare himself for owning a business. But Nick could not anticipate meeting his law school roommate and future business partner, Joshua Fitch, on Admittance Day at the University of Denver - Boulder.

Nick Troxel believes that you can do anything with your legal education if you are willing to work hard. Hard work and sacrifice will allow you to reach all of your goals, but you must first establish your goals.

Lawyers Have Cool Interests

Nick Troxel is a featured lawyer in the book, How To Be A Lawyer. Troxel Fitch is featured in How To Be A Lawyer because of the law firm's strategic growth. Nick and Joshua have unique stories that will inspire law students to chase after their goals and motivate new lawyers to discover what they want from their education.

In April 2022, Nick bet the Philadelphia Eagles would win Super Bowl LVII. On Sunday, February 11, 2023, the Philadelphia Eagles are playing in the Super Bowl, and Nick is traveling to attend the game with his father. This is an example of why flexibility is a big perk to any business owner!

UPDATE: Unfortunately, the Philadelphia Eagles did not win Super Bowl LVII, but Nick Troxel had a great time watching the game live with his dad.

What Can You Do With a Law Degree?

Nick Troxel believes that you can do anything with your legal education if you are willing to work hard. Hard work and sacrifice will allow you to reach all of your goals, but you must first establish your goals. When Nick and his co-founder decided that they wanted to open a law firm in Denver, Colorado, they put together a plan to save money and persevere, despite having to work multiple jobs and delay vacations.

“You can have the map, but you have to execute it,” explains Nick Troxel in Episode 76 of You Are A Lawyer.

Lawyer Side Hustles

Nick Troxel is not afraid of hard work. When he co-founded the law firm, Troxel Fitch, LLC, he worked as a ride-share driver. Yep, you know the ones. Nick would drive people around to earn money and take that earned money to build his law firm. Nick mentioned eating ramen noodles and a lot of canned foods because every dollar needed to be managed well and used to contribute to their law firm.

And it worked. Not only is Troxel Fitch a respected law firm, but the firm withstood the challenges of pandemic restrictions and slow months.
