About This Episode

Luis Scott’s Background

Luis Scott is a managing partner at Bader Scott Injury Lawyers, an eight-figure law firm based in Atlanta, Georgia. Born in Gary, Indiana, and raised in Puerto Rico, Luis's journey to becoming a lawyer was influenced by his father's belief in his potential. However, it was a chance encounter with a judge during his undergraduate studies that solidified his decision to pursue a legal career.

"I don't think I can become a lawyer. He says, 'You can become a lawyer.' He's like, 'Why don't you do an internship with me over the summer?' That internship completely changed my life and that was the thing that said, 'I want to be a lawyer.'" shares Luis Scott on You Are A Lawyer.

With a background in accounting and philosophy, Luis's aspiration to become a business owner and rewrite the legacy of his family played a significant role in his career path. As the managing partner of Bader Scott Injury Lawyers, Luis oversees the firm's operations, finance, marketing, and people. His focus on creating an environment of excellence extends beyond the legal work and permeates throughout the entire organization. By prioritizing employee satisfaction, providing top-notch benefits, and fostering a culture of growth and support, Luis has built a firm that not only attracts top talent but also inspires loyalty and a sense of community.

Why Law School

Luis chose to pursue law school because of a pivotal moment in his undergraduate business law class. After making a joke about wanting to be a lawyer, his professor approached him and asked if he truly wanted to pursue a legal career. This encounter sparked an internship opportunity with the judge, which completely changed Luis's perspective and solidified his desire to become a lawyer.

"I thought I wanted to be a criminal lawyer. And I went to go work for a criminal lawyer for a short period of time. And when I saw how much money he was making, I was like, wait a second. I don't know if I want to be a lawyer. I think I want to be a business owner, a law firm owner," shares Luis Scott on episode 97 of You Are a Lawyer.

Luis's motivation to rewrite the legacy of his family and provide for their needs played a significant role in his decision to pursue a legal career. Growing up in a relatively poor family, he felt a tremendous burden to bear the responsibility of his family's well-being. He saw becoming a successful lawyer and business owner as a means to achieve financial stability and support his loved ones. Luis's drive to create a better future for his family propelled him towards a legal career and ultimately led to his success as a managing partner of an eight-figure law firm.

Luis Scott, the managing partner of Bader Scott Injury Lawyers, delves into the possibilities and opportunities that come with a law degree. As Luis shares his journey from humble beginnings to becoming a successful lawyer and business owner, he emphasizes the importance of finding your passion and leveraging your legal skills to make a meaningful impact.

"Don't do what people think you should do. Find out what you're the most passionate about and lean into that," said Luis Scott on You Are A Lawyer.

With a law degree, you have the power to shape your career and create a lasting legacy. Having a law degree opens doors to a multitude of career paths, from practicing law in various fields to becoming an entrepreneur and running your own law firm. As Luis's story exemplifies, the possibilities are endless. Whether you choose to specialize in criminal law, personal injury, or any other area, the key is to live in your passion and strive for excellence. By honing your legal skills, continuously educating yourself on the business of law, and surrounding yourself with mentors and like-minded individuals, you can build a successful and fulfilling career. As Luis aptly puts it, "If you do that, you'll have an amazing career." So, unlock the potential of your law degree and make a difference in the world.

Using Wealth to Make a Difference

Growing up in a financially disadvantaged family, Luis felt a deep sense of responsibility to rewrite the legacy of his family and provide for their needs. This drove him to pursue success and become rich, initially through the path of professional baseball, which was cut short due to injuries. However, he found another avenue to achieve his goal by becoming a business owner and growing a successful law firm. His motivation to accumulate wealth was not rooted in selfishness, but rather in the desire to support and uplift his family.

"I had this incredible burden to bear the responsibility of my family. And the only way I knew to do that was to become rich. How am I going to become rich? Originally, I thought coming from Puerto Rico, I played baseball. I was going to go into the pros, but I kept getting injured. So that was kind of foreclosed. And so then my second plan B became becoming a business owner and trying to grow an organization as big as I could," shared Luis Scott on Episode 97 of You Are A Lawyer.

Luis's story highlights the transformative power of wealth when used to benefit others. As the managing partner of an eight-figure law firm, he has been able to create a work environment that offers top-tier compensation, generous benefits, and opportunities for personal growth to his employees. By providing excellent resources and support, he fosters a culture of excellence and inspires his team to deliver exceptional service to their clients. Moreover, the success of his firm enables him to make a significant impact in the community through charitable initiatives and investments in cases that require attention. Luis's journey serves as a reminder that wealth, when coupled with a genuine desire to help others, can be a powerful tool for positive change.
