About This Episode

Background

Dr. Rhonda Glover Reese always knew she wanted to work for the FBI. Inspired by a childhood TV show and a pamphlet she found in high school, she never wavered from her dream. Over 34 years, she served in nearly every investigative area imaginable; drugs, counterterrorism, white collar, and more. Her career was not only long but full of meaningful growth, variety, and moments of personal clarity. She now brings that same passion and discipline to her work as a certified career coach.

“That's all I ever wanted to do. And so I was blessed to have been able to do that and spend 34 years in the FBI," shares Dr. Rhonda Glover Reese on You Are A Lawyer.

Today, Dr. Rhonda works with clients across the country and around the world through her business, Rhonda Glover Group, LLC. Her coaching is built on transparency, faith, and deep lived experience. She uses her own stories, including the wins and the regrets, to guide others toward success and self-awareness. Her impact is grounded in real-world insight and an unwavering dedication to helping people grow.

Law School

Although Dr. Rhonda did not attend law school herself, she shared keen insight into how a law degree complements careers in law enforcement. From legal writing and investigative analysis to working with prosecutors and public defenders, she highlighted how lawyers can thrive in federal spaces like the FBI. She emphasized the importance of focus and purpose when pursuing a legal education, encouraging aspiring attorneys to clarify their goals before committing.

“As a lawyer, you do a lot of writing. And in the FBI, we did a lot of writing. You speak the language, and you can really excel," reflects Dr. Rhonda Glover Reese on Episode 199 of You Are a Lawyer.

Her advice to young lawyers is to think beyond the courtroom. A legal background can be powerful in investigative roles, compliance, federal service, and leadership. What matters most is knowing what you want to do with your degree and understanding how it can support others.

What You Can Do With a Law Degree

Dr. Rhonda believes a law degree is one of many tools you can use to serve and lead. While she worked alongside many attorneys during her FBI tenure, she saw firsthand how a legal education offers structure, discipline, and communication skills that translate to a wide range of roles. She encourages lawyers to view their degree as a starting point, not a limitation.

“There are different things that you can do to become a better leader and to go higher," shared Dr. Rhonda Glover Reese on Episode 199 of You Are a Lawyer.

Whether you apply your legal skills to criminal investigations, policy work, coaching, or education, the key is intentionality. Dr. Rhonda urges young professionals to get clear on how they want to serve and let that vision guide their career path.

Side Hustles

Dr. Rhonda’s “side hustle” is far from traditional. After retiring from the FBI, she launched a coaching business to help others find fulfillment in their careers. Her passion lies in career and leadership development, especially for those in law enforcement. She also offers training, speaks at events, and creates space for honest conversations about burnout, purpose, and growth.

“I'm great at mentoring and coaching, particularly in that law enforcement space. I'm good. I'm great,” expresses Dr. Rhonda Glover Reese in Episode 199 of You Are a Lawyer.

Her journey from federal agent to entrepreneur was not accidental. It was built on prayer, reflection, and a growing awareness that people were turning to her for guidance. Today, she is intentional about the size and structure of her business to maintain the life she wants; one that includes faith, flexibility, and continued service.
