About This Episode

Jasmin Robinson’s Background

Jasmin Robinson, known as Attorney Jas, is a trailblazer in the legal field, particularly as a law school coach and entrepreneur. As the first lawyer in her family, she faced the challenges of navigating the law school admissions process without guidance. Through her brand, Jas Talks Law, she aims to change the narrative surrounding the representation of Black lawyers, as only 5% of all lawyers in the U.S. are Black.

"I had no idea what I was doing... I wish I had Jas Talks Law," shares Jasmin Robinson on You Are A Lawyer.

Jasmin also practices entrepreneurship and entertainment law in Atlanta, Georgia. Her journey has been marked by a commitment to empowering others, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds, to pursue their dreams of becoming lawyers. She emphasizes the importance of financial accessibility in law school admissions. Through her work, Jasmin not only shares her knowledge but also inspires a new generation of legal professionals.

Why Law School

Jasmin chose to attend law school driven by her personal experiences and the challenges she witnessed within her family. As the first lawyer in her family, she was motivated to break barriers and create opportunities for herself and others. Jasmin reflected on her journey, sharing that she had no idea what she was doing during the law school admissions process, which highlighted her desire to help future lawyers navigate the complexities she faced. Her commitment to increasing diversity in the legal profession is evident in her work with Jas Talks Law, where she aims to assist aspiring lawyers, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds, in achieving their dreams of attending law school.

"It was the best worst experience of my life," reflects Jasmin Robinson on Episode 168 of You Are a Lawyer.

During her time in law school, Jasmin found the experience to be both challenging and rewarding. Jasmin's determination to succeed and her passion for law have fueled her mission to support others in their legal journeys, ensuring that they have the resources and guidance she wished she had during her own path.

What Can You Do with a Law Degree

As discussed by Jasmin Robinson in the podcast, individuals can leverage their legal education in various fields, including entrepreneurship and entertainment law. Robinson herself exemplifies this versatility, as she balances her roles as a practicing attorney and a law school coach through her brand, Jas Talks Law. This dual focus not only allows her to assist aspiring lawyers in navigating the admissions process but also enables her to engage in legal practice, demonstrating that a law degree can be a powerful tool for those looking to carve out unique professional niches.

"I strongly believe if there is something you're passionate about, it can become your source of income," explains Jasmin Robinson, on this episode of You Are a Lawyer.

A law degree equips graduates with critical thinking, analytical skills, and a deep understanding of legal principles, which can be applied in diverse roles such as business consulting, policy-making, or even running a nonprofit organization. It is not just a gateway to becoming a lawyer; it can also serve as a foundation for a fulfilling career in various sectors, empowering graduates to make meaningful contributions to society.

Lawyer Side Hustles

In the podcast episode featuring Attorney Jasmin Robinson, the discussion highlights the growing trend of lawyers engaging in side hustles, particularly through her own venture, Jas Talks Law. This business not only serves as a law school admissions consulting brand but also addresses the significant underrepresentation of Black lawyers in the legal profession. Jasmin's journey exemplifies how lawyers can leverage their expertise to create additional income streams while making a meaningful impact in their communities. By helping aspiring law students secure scholarships and navigate the admissions process, she has successfully combined her passion for law with entrepreneurship.

“I didn't even look at it as a business. I just looked at it as something I wanted to help people,” shares Jasmin Robinson in Episode 168 of You Are a Lawyer.

By establishing side businesses like Jas Talks Law, attorneys can not only enhance their professional fulfillment but also contribute to addressing systemic issues within the legal field. Such initiatives not only empower future lawyers but also allow current practitioners to utilize their skills in innovative ways, ultimately enriching the legal landscape.
