Sam Mollaei didn't always know he wanted to become a lawyer. After attending UCLA, he followed many of his friends to law school before discovering that traditional legal practice wasn't the career he envisioned for himself. Instead of accepting the status quo, Sam began studying entrepreneurship, marketing, automation, and online business models to build something different.
“I'm a contrarian kind of thinker. If everybody's running this way, I'm running the opposite way," shares Sam Mollaei on You Are A Lawyer.
Inspired by The 4-Hour Workweek, Sam committed to building legal businesses that were virtual, automated, and scalable. Today, he has founded multiple virtual law firms and Legal Funnel, where he teaches attorneys how to modernize their practices through automation and systems.
Why Law School
Although Sam entered law school without a clear understanding of what practicing law actually involved, the experience helped him discover what kind of career he truly wanted. Working in a law firm while earning his degree gave him firsthand insight into traditional legal practice and motivated him to carve his own path.
"I realized that I'm probably not gonna be a traditional lawyer," reflects Sam Mollaei on Episode 56 of You Are a Lawyer.
Rather than abandoning his legal education, Sam combined it with skills in marketing, technology, and entrepreneurship. His law degree became the foundation that allowed him to build businesses serving lawyers in ways he never expected when he first enrolled in law school.
What Can You Do with a Law Degree
Sam believes a law degree gives you authority, but what matters most is how you use it. Instead of following a traditional legal career, he created businesses focused on helping lawyers generate clients, automate repetitive work, and build firms that don't rely solely on billable hours.

His career demonstrates that lawyers can combine legal knowledge with other interests to create entirely new opportunities. By specializing in both law and marketing, Sam built a niche that allows him to educate attorneys while continuing to practice law himself.
Lawyer Side Hustles
Legal Funnel began after Sam successfully applied online sales funnels to his own law firms and realized other attorneys could benefit from the same systems. Today, he mentors hundreds of lawyers through group coaching, teaching them how to automate client intake, delegate work, and build businesses that continue growing without sacrificing their personal lives.
