Lawrence Blackmon on You Are a Lawyer

Victoria Inoyo is the Director of Advising at Juris Education, an edtech platform advising students toward careers in law, and a lawyer working in business affairs and creative marketing at Apple. In this episode, Victoria shares how she navigated law school as a first generation American, why she chose the creative side of the legal industry, and how she now helps aspiring lawyers “take the elevator” instead of the stairs through the admissions process.

About This Episode

Background

Victoria knew from a young age that she wanted to become an attorney, but she did not initially know where she would fit within the legal profession. During undergrad, she spent time in Washington, DC and realized that politics was not her path. After returning to Los Angeles and immersing herself in film, music, and live events, she had a realization.

“There has to be lawyers behind all of this," shares Victoria Inoyo on You Are A Lawyer.

That insight pushed her toward entertainment and creative industries. Instead of defaulting to traditional firm practice, she strategically chose schools, internships, and opportunities that would position her at the intersection of law and creativity.

Why Law School

Victoria’s path to law school was intentional but not easy. As a first generation American and the first in her family to attend law school in the United States, she navigated much of the admissions process without a clear roadmap.

“I felt like I took the stairs. I know a lot of people take the elevator," explains Victoria Inoyo on Episode 238 of You Are a Lawyer.

That experience shaped her desire to pay it forward. Today, through Juris Education, she works with students from beginning to end, helping them choose schools aligned with their goals, refine their personal statements, prepare for interviews, and maximize scholarship opportunities. Her goal is not just acceptance, but clarity.

What Can You Do with a Law Degree

Victoria’s career demonstrates the breadth of a JD. While she gained experience in firm work and mergers and acquisitions after graduation, she ultimately returned to the creative side of the industry. She now works in business affairs and creative marketing at Apple, contributing to high visibility campaigns. Her philosophy about legal education is expansive.

“Just because you go to law school doesn’t mean you have to be a lawyer," shares Victoria Inoyo on Episode 238 of You Are a Lawyer.

She consistently reminds students and young lawyers that a law degree is a powerful foundation. Whether someone pursues litigation, in-house roles, business affairs, entrepreneurship, or creative marketing, the training travels with them.

Lawyer Side Hustles

In addition to her work in business affairs, Victoria serves as the Director of Advising at Juris Education, an edtech platform advising students toward careers in law. The platform supports applicants nationwide and internationally through every stage of the admissions process.

“This is what I wish I had,” Victoria Inoyo expresses in Episode 238 of You Are a Lawyer.

She sees mentorship as a way to close information gaps and reduce unnecessary stress. By helping students identify their goals early and understand the full spectrum of legal career options, she is building access and confidence for the next generation of lawyers.
