One of the most significant opportunities of Daniel's pre-law career came when he was invited to move to Rome and serve as International Director for the Patrons of the Arts in the Vatican Museums. While the work was fascinating and deeply rewarding, it also helped him better understand what he wanted long-term: meaningful work, strong relationships, and a life aligned with his personal values.

Why Law School

Although Daniel grew up with a lawyer father and had always respected the profession, law school was not part of his original career plan. Instead, the decision came later in life when he began evaluating what kind of work would allow him to contribute meaningfully while working alongside people he trusted and respected.

“What I knew I wanted at that point was I wante to do something that's meaningful, but most of all that I get to work with people I know and trust and enjoy working with," explains Daniel J. Hennessy on Episode 250 of You Are a Lawyer.

Daniel attended law school full-time while continuing to work part-time. Starting law school in 2020 brought its own unique challenges as classes shifted online during the pandemic. While many younger students struggled with the sudden isolation, Daniel's previous life experiences gave him perspective and resilience that helped him navigate the uncertainty.

What Can You Do with a Law Degree

Today, Daniel serves as in-house counsel for Garfield Public/Private, a company that partners with municipalities across the United States to develop major infrastructure projects such as convention centers, hotels, performing arts centers, parking facilities, and economic development initiatives.

His work combines law, business, finance, real estate, politics, construction, and public-private partnerships. Rather than practicing in a traditional law firm environment, Daniel uses his legal education to help cities navigate complex projects that can transform local economies.
