Kyla Denanyoh How Valuable is Your Law Degree

In this special solo episode, Kyla Denanyoh celebrates six years of You Are a Lawyer by sharing six lessons she has learned as a podcast host. From guest management and monetization to risk taking and long term strategy, Kyla explains why podcasting is powerful, profitable, and life changing when treated like a real business.

About This Episode

Background

Six years ago, Kyla Denanyoh did not know how to podcast. She was not consuming multiple shows or studying the industry. In fact, she admits she only regularly listened to one podcast at the time.

“I didn’t know how to podcast. I didn’t understand the value of podcasts," shares Kyla Denanyoh on You Are A Lawyer.

What she did know was that there were conversations about lawyers changing careers that deserved a larger platform. Inspired by media personalities who spotlight overlooked voices, she committed to building something of her own. She recorded seven episodes before launching because she was afraid she would not have enough guests. That early commitment laid the foundation for what has now become a six year body of work.

Why Podcasting

For Kyla, podcasting was never about vanity metrics. It was about ownership and control. As host, she controls the tone, the pacing, the questions, and the direction of every conversation.

“You are the show manager," explains Kyla Denanyoh on Episode 237 of You Are a Lawyer.

That realization reframed the fear many people feel about starting a show. Hosting means having power, and power can feel intimidating. But Kyla emphasizes preparation, systems, and tools like HoneyBook to streamline the backend so the creative work becomes easier. Podcasting, when structured intentionally, can function like a business while still being joyful.

What Can You Do with a Platform

Over six years, podcasting has expanded Kyla’s skillset far beyond what she originally expected. Her public speaking, confidence, empathy, research skills, and business strategy have all grown through the discipline of showing up consistently.

“Podcasting will change your life," shares Kyla Denanyoh on Episode 237 of You Are a Lawyer.

She has interviewed 237 lawyers she otherwise never would have met. She has been invited back to her law school to speak. She has built multiple podcast related businesses. What started as a risk evolved into a professional ecosystem.

Lawyer Side Hustles

Podcasting became more than a creative outlet. It became infrastructure. Kyla now launches and manages podcasts for others, consults on strategy, and runs her own show five months ahead of schedule.

“I run my podcast like it is a business,” Kyla Denanyoh expresses in Episode 237 of You Are a Lawyer.

She emphasizes that monetization is optional, but intentionality is not. Whether through sponsorships, services, or brand expansion, podcasting can open unexpected doors. The key, she explains, is commitment. Not dabbling. Not experimenting casually. But committing fully to learning, improving, and showing up.
